Education & Amharic at KidMia – Teaching Ethiopian Language & Culture

Educating our Children in Amharic, the Ethiopian Language
At Kidmia, education is the foundation of everything we do. We try to make learning a fun and inspirational experience as youngsters explore their rich Ethiopian inheritance. Kidmia uses a variety of educational tools, from traditional classroom materials to high-tech computer software. Over the years, we have developed comprehensive lesson plans that educate our children at each level of study.

• Starting at age 2, children attend classes on the fundamentals of Ethiopian language and culture.

• Most lessons focus on the teaching of Amharic, the official Ethiopian language, which today is spoken as a first language by 10 to 12 million people, and as a
second language by millions more.

•Ethiopian language classes are specifically designed to provide children with a firm grasp, both written and verbal, of Amhari.

• We use software from Shining Star Multimedia of Los Angeles, a leading developer of African and Ethiopian language tools. Kidmia leaders meet regularly to monitor progress, analyze new learning plans and tailor lessons to maximize their effectiveness in teaching Amhari.
